Virginia Senator Tim Kaine, who has previously raised concerns about adding more flights to the airport, expressed his fears about potential overcrowding. “I’ve been very worried about this for a long time. Jimmy Mazel, a 17-year-old who was dining at a park near the airport, reported seeing a bright white light descending rapidly. “I wasn’t sure what it was at first, but then I saw people running toward the water, and emergency vehicles started arriving. It was terrifying,” he said.
Another witness, a boat captain who was navigating the Potomac at the time, described hearing a loud explosion before seeing the wreckage hit the water.
