Authorities are investigating the suspect’s potential ties to terrorist organizations and exploring possible connections to Texas.

A Devastating Attack

Witnesses described scenes of chaos and terror as the pickup truck plowed through the crowded streets of the French Quarter, where people were celebrating the arrival of the new year. The driver reportedly ignored barricades, accelerating into the crowd to cause maximum damage.

“The guy in the pickup truck just punched the gas and mowed over the barricade and hit pedicab passengers. There were just bodies and the screams,” said Kimberly Strickland, a tourist from Alabama. Other witnesses recounted hearing the screech of tires and seeing bodies flung into the air as the truck barreled down the street.

The attack left debris, injured individuals, and lifeless bodies scattered across the street. Survivors described the harrowing aftermath, with one witness noting, “Only a movie script could give you the images in my head.”

The FBI is leading the investigation and has found evidence suggesting the suspect’s connection to ISIS, including a flag found in the truck. Law enforcement also discovered multiple suspected explosive devices in an ice chest inside the vehicle. These devices are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.

Agents are also working to identify any associates of the suspect and investigating the suspect’s political or religious affiliations. Resources from Quantico, Virginia, have been dispatched to aid in the investigation, with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) also assisting.
