Election Day Specials: Don’t Miss Out On Free Rides And Delicious Deals!

As Election Day approaches, businesses nationwide are rolling out special offers and discounts to encourage voter turnout and reward those participating in the democratic process. This year, various promotions ranging from discounted rides to the polls to free and reduced-price meals are available for voters. It’s important to note, however, that while these promotions are enticing, they steer clear of legal boundaries set by the Federal Election Commission, which has prohibited giveaways during elections when federal candidates are on the ballot since 1948.

Comprehensive Ride-Sharing Discounts To Facilitate Voting

One of the most significant barriers to voting is transportation. To address this, major ride-sharing companies like Uber and Lyft have introduced special offers to make it easier for voters to reach polling stations.

Uber has enhanced its app with new features specifically designed for Election Day. A prominent ‘Go Vote!’ tile will be displayed on the home screen of the Uber app. When users tap this tile, they will find several helpful options:

  • Locate Your Polling Place: Users can enter their home address to find their nearest polling station. The app then allows them to book a ride directly to the polling place.
  • Discounted Rides: Riders in the U.S. will receive 50% off rides to their polling places, with savings of up to $10.
  • Election Night Promotions: As the results start coming in, users can avail themselves of 25% off Uber Eats orders after 6 p.m., with a maximum discount of $15 on orders that meet a minimum of $25.

Additionally, to celebrate and encourage voting, UberX cars will feature an American flag wrap, serving both as a reminder and a celebration of civic duty.

Lyft’s Commitment Through Voting Access Program

Similarly, Lyft is offering a 50% discount, up to $10 off, on rideshares, bikes, and scooters to the polls. This initiative is part of Lyft’s broader LyftUp Voting Access Program, which was initiated over a decade ago. Lyft’s Chief Policy Officer, Jerry Golden, stated that the program aims to ensure transportation isn’t a barrier to voting. Since its inception in 2014, Lyft has helped approximately three million voters reach polling places.
