Is Jussie Lying About Being Gay?
OK, at this point we are all wondering what is true and what is false about Jussie Smollett. After the revelation that he has a history of providing false information. ( Jussie pleaded no contest in 2007 to providing false information to police during a DUI stop in LA, according to a report.) Many people find themselves questioning everything he has said.
Smollett claimed last month in a TMZ report that he was attacked in Chicago by two white men who called him racial and homophobic slurs, put a noose around his neck, poured bleach on him, and shouted, woman This is MAGA country!” After a long investigation into the incident, Chicago police officially classified Smollett as a suspect for filing a false police report.
While many people are still trying to wrap their heads around the reasoning behind fabricating a hate crime, others are also questioning every other aspect of Jussie’s public life.
In 2015 The actor spoke with Ellen DeGeneres in a rare one-on-one backstage, after taping an appearance on the show. After Jussie Smollett’s character, Jamal Lyon, came out as gay on the hit drama “Empire,” there had been plenty of speculation about his own sexuality, and he used the Ellen Show to “set the record straight.”
In the Interview, Jussie stated that he was not in the closet, and that “there is no closet.” He continued ” There’s never been a closet that I’ve been in. I don’t own a closet, I got a dresser, but I don’t have a closet. But I have a home and that is my responsibility to protect that home.”
Though he claimed he was not in the closet, he still felt the need to announce his sexuality on the biggest Talk show on television.
Following his appearance on the Ellen show, Jussie went on, what can only be described as, an I’m gay tour. Making stops at many television shows and magazines.
It was a recurring statement he made on the subsequent shows that peaked my interests. It was during these interviews that he altered his revelation from the Ellen show and claimed no Sexual Orientation.

Jussie says love shouldn’t be defined by one’s sexual orientation. “I believe that love is the only thing that matters, and I would hope that anybody would leave themselves open — not to gender, but to love. I would hope that people would not close themselves off from what could be if, lo and behold, you meet somebody that just sweeps you off your feet, and you just can’t do anything about it.”
He adds, “If we truly believe that we are born this way, then why do we try to stifle the way we were born? If I fall in love down the road with a woman, I’m going to love that woman.”
Clearly Jussie is leaving the door open to be straight in public.
When it comes to his love life in public there has been some mystery. for instance In 2015, Jussie was rumored to have hooked up with the football player, Michael Sam. But Jussie claimed the news to be fake despite spending a lot of time together with Michael.
Similarly, he was rumored to be dating his co-actor Dustin Ross. The pair, who first met on the set of an indie flick called The Skinny, portrayed the role of on-screen boyfriends. The duo also seemed to be created a real-life romance leading to three years on and off screen relation till 2015.
And in 2016, Jussie went on stage with the Empire creator Lee Daniels at the Human Rights Campaign 2016 Los Angeles Gala Dinner.
When Empire’s cast was being honored, Jussie went to producer Lee Daniels and kissed him, and it was awkward to say the least. The kissing scene surely benefited the rumors of two openly gay, Jussie and Lee’s dating affairs. However, they never confronted the dating news.
Granted, all of this evidence is anecdotal, and in the grand scheme of things is fairly meaningless. However, this is only the beginning of the doubt that will follow Jussie the rest of his life. His image is irreparably tarnished. And the sad part will only be the collateral damage from his actions.
