Over 10,000 Pounds of Pork and Beef Products Recalled—Here’s What to Know

In recent food safety developments, the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued warnings about two significant recalls affecting pork and beef products across various states. More than 10,000 pounds of these products are involved due to mislabeling and production irregularities, highlighting a crucial call to action for consumers to inspect their refrigerators and freezers.

Detailed Breakdown of Recalled Products

Pork

1. Italian Pork Sausage Recall

The first recall involves approximately 7,485 pounds of raw Italian pork sausage. This product, branded under the label “Old World Italian Sausage,” has been recalled in Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania. Notably, these sausages were sold at deli counters from October 3, 2024, through December 19, 2024, without the benefit of FSIS inspection. This oversight raises concerns about potential health risks, although no illnesses have been reported so far. Consumers are urged to dispose of any raw sausage purchased from deli counters if it matches the recall specifics. Checking the label and purchase dates is essential for identifying affected products.

2. Garlic Bologna Recall

A more widespread issue concerns the recall of 3,132 pounds of Ralph’s Circle R branded Garlic Bologna. This product may have reached consumers through deli counters at grocery stores across Oklahoma. Initiated due to the presence of undeclared dairy—a common allergen—the recall began as a proactive measure to prevent allergic reactions. Since the product has been available since September 2022, the scope of its impact is potentially vast. Symptoms of a reaction to this product can include hives, swelling, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, hoarse voice, and even severe responses such as anaphylaxis, which could lead to cardiac arrest.
