Vice President Kamala Harris Joins Bret Baier For An Exclusive ‘Special Report’ Interview

Addressing Violent Crimes Committed by Illegal Immigrants

The conversation took a sobering turn as Baier brought up the murders of Jocelyn Nungaray, Rachel Morin, and Laken Riley — individuals allegedly killed by illegal immigrants who entered the U.S. during the Biden administration. Harris acknowledged the tragedies, expressing deep sympathy for the victims’ families. “There’s no question that these are tragic cases, and I can’t imagine the pain that the families have experienced,” she stated, highlighting that if proposed border security measures had been enacted sooner, some of these tragedies might have been averted.

Ongoing Challenges and Systemic Issues

Harris was candid about the challenges facing the current immigration system, noting its longstanding issues that predate even the Trump administration. “We’ve had a broken immigration system transcending, by the way, Donald Trump’s administration, even before. Let’s all be honest about that,” Harris remarked. She emphasized the need for more resources at the border, including more judges to process cases faster and additional support for prosecuting necessary cases.

Controversial Policies and Legal Adherence

Towards the end of the interview, Baier asked about taxpayer-funded transgender surgeries for illegal immigrants, a point of significant contention. Harris responded by referencing adherence to existing laws, a practice that was also followed during Trump’s administration. “I will follow a law. A law that Donald Trump actually followed. You’re probably familiar with now, it’s a public report, that under Donald Trump’s administration, these surgeries were available to, on a medical necessity basis, to people in the federal prison system,” she explained.

Looking Towards Solutions

Vice President Harris concluded the interview by focusing on the need for legislative solutions to the immigration issues facing the United States. She reiterated her commitment to working towards these solutions, emphasizing the role of Congress in achieving meaningful reform. This stance points to an ongoing dialogue about immigration that remains at the forefront of national policy discussions, underscoring the complexity and divisiveness of the issue.
