Kim Jong Un To Send 12,000 Soldiers To Russia, Sparking International Tensions

SEOUL, South Korea—As confirmed by South Korea and the United States, North Korea plans to dispatch 12,000 troops to aid Russia, escalating tensions on the global stage. This significant military maneuver has drawn sharp criticism from international leaders and raised concerns about its implications for regional security.

Deployment Details

South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun

South Korean Defense Minister Kim Yong-hyun disclosed to lawmakers that North Korea will bolster Russia’s military capabilities with a substantial contingent, including special forces, military engineers, and artillery troops. According to reports from NBC News, this deployment has been orchestrated under the Kremlin’s command, with troops disguised as Russian soldiers. So far, 3,000 of these troops have already been stationed in Eastern Russia, with ongoing training at Russian military bases. This aligns with the assessment from Washington, where National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby emphasized the readiness of these forces. Kirby declared that any North Korean soldiers engaged in Ukraine would be considered legitimate targets, indicating a potential escalation in conflict dynamics.

International Reactions

The international response has been swift and critical. South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol vowed action, declaring the move a provocation that threatens the security of the Korean peninsula. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that Pyongyang was preparing two brigades totaling 12,000 troops to strengthen Putin’s forces. This development follows earlier confirmations by the U.S. of North Korea’s support to Russia, which includes the provision of critical munitions.

Russian and North Korean officials have denied these troop movements, with Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova dismissing them as “fake and hype.” However, these denials have not quelled the growing international outcry nor the strategic concerns voiced by NATO and other allies.
